헤이든 아발론 녹지원B Writing Class

Hi everyone (안녕하세요!).  It was nice to meet you all today.  반가왔어요.  This week’s homework is you need to write an Independent essay, where you give your opinion about a question.  This week’s question is:  “Girls are better at boys in learning English.  Do you agree or disagree?”

You need to write 150-200 words and the flow of your writing should have:

* Main idea (thesis) with a hook – This is your introduction, where you state what you think and why. You should spend 5 minutes on this.

* 2-3 supporting arguments, with supporting evidence and personal examples.  You should spend 9 minutes on this.

* Conclusion – here you re-state your introduction, but using different words and possibly different grammar.  You should spent 5 minutes on this.

Edit and correct your essay.  You should spend 1 minute on this.  Please email me your answer during the week to my email address, haydnenglish@yahoo.com

Thanks guys!  수고했어!

Test Results (Chapter 13)

Guys, I’m very proud of you this week.  You achieved an average 86% in your test (see the graph).  Congratulations!  This week’s top students are:

1) Byungjoo (Justin) from Korea;

2) Hyunjoo (Jessica) from Korea;

3) Pook from Thailand.

Your writing was good – you used the Present Perfect Continuous very well.

Next week’s test is going to be a little bit more challenging: there will be questions about everything in Pre-Intermediate.  This is because I want you to be well prepared for Intermediate.  We’ll do some revision of  the book this week  :)

The other thing that you really need to fix is your speaking.  You’ve said to your afternoon teacher that you want to practise your speaking, but she said today that many students don’t speak in class.  Remember that if you want to improve your speaking you need to speak.  Class is the best place to do it  :)   So don’t worry about making mistakes or looking silly – just smile and keep trying  :)

See you tomorrow.

Today’s class

Hi everyone, today we’re going to do some tense revision because I know you all need it.  I hope you’re all okay  :)

 Today I’m going to do something different:  we’re going to watch an Australian comedy DVD that shows a character called Ja’mie.  You’ll see how young Australian girls talk- it’s really funny and I think you’ll have fun watching it  :P

Ciao!  :)

A question about studying vocabulary

Tonight a student emailed me about vocabulary:

Hi HaydnYesterday I bought book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”.
I’ve been reading it, but there are many vocabulary that I don’t know.
How do I read  for this case?

1) If there is vocabulary that I don’t know mean, I have to check the
vocabulary every time.
2) If there is vocabulary that I don’t know mean, I have to keep
reading that don’t care the vocabulary.

What do you think?
What should I do?

And, I don’t know too mach vocabulary.
Sometime, there are vocabulary that I don’t know mean in the class.
I can’t to say that I want to say things.

Do you know good way to study vocabulary?
What should I do?

These are very good questions and I will answer them in class tomorrow.  It’s great to see students asking questions like this!

VERY NICE  :)

Haydn.

Test Results (Chapter 12)

Hi everybody!  Your test average this week = 78%.  Remember tomorrow there is a speaking test!  Come armed and prepared  :)   One student, so far, has given me an article.  That’s not looking very goood  :(   If you’re serious about improving your speaking- which every student should be- then you should do tomorrow’s test.

 This week’s top grammar test results were:

1) Justin from Korea;

2) Sumin from Korea;

3) Larissa from Brazil and Hisanori from Japan.

Very nice!

PS – Justin sent me an email today that I thought was very funny.  It said:

“Today our class was very calm and a little boring.  I missed sugar daddy :)  See you tomorrow teacher!!”  Thanks Justin!  I’ll give you a hug tomorrow  ;D

Promotions to Intermediate

To my lovely morning class,

I had a conversation with my manager, Thorsten, and I’ve decided not to promote anyone from D1 to intermediate.  This is because I don’t feel like any of you are ready for it.  In our class there are two types of students:

1) Those great at grammar but not so good with speaking;

2) Those terrific at speaking but less able to use grammar correctly.

I want to see you guys using grammar correctly and speaking well at the same time.  You know what your weaknesses are and I have given you lots of advice about how to fix them.  You can’t move just because of grammar or speaking; you must have both.  Trust me  :)   I’m the best teacher at Ability, and if you follow my advice and help yourself  then you will move faster, like Xiong.

Have a good Tuesday,

Haydn.

Test Results (Chapter 11)

This week’s grammar test has definately been surprising.   The class average was 77% (see the graph).  Here are the top students in this round:

1) Hasinori

2) Justin

3) See Won

I want to give special congratulations to Hasinori.  In one week his grammar score increased by 15% and he’s now #1 in class!!!  If Hasinori can do it, anyone can do it.

Sophie (HG) was also surprising; she only came to class one day last week but she got a good score and did really well in the writing question.

Touk the Thai also did very well.  He got questions right that the best students got wrong.  That’s very good, Mr Touk :)

See you all in class.
