Creative Writing Exercise
This week at Avalon I asked my students to look at a page with four images on it and write a story using them. It was a lot of fun doing it
Here are the images! Here too is an example of a story that I wrote using one set of images and here’s a Growing Student Dictionary specifically for Korean students. I had fun making this and I’d like to use it later for a short story to publish.
A question about studying vocabulary
Tonight a student emailed me about vocabulary:
Hi HaydnYesterday I bought book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”.
I’ve been reading it, but there are many vocabulary that I don’t know.
How do I read for this case?
1) If there is vocabulary that I don’t know mean, I have to check the
vocabulary every time.
2) If there is vocabulary that I don’t know mean, I have to keep
reading that don’t care the vocabulary.
What do you think?
What should I do?
And, I don’t know too mach vocabulary.
Sometime, there are vocabulary that I don’t know mean in the class.
I can’t to say that I want to say things.
Do you know good way to study vocabulary?
What should I do?
These are very good questions and I will answer them in class tomorrow. It’s great to see students asking questions like this!
VERY NICE
Haydn.
Expressions of Emphasis: so and such a/an, Chapter 10 Vocab, and Speaking Test
Hi all,
Grammar and Vocabulary
Here is a very very very very very short summary of so and such an/ an. Also here is the vocabulary for Chapter 10. This week’s speaking test was interesting: both the average class grammar mark and the average class speaking mark were 79%. So your speaking and grammar are at the same level
Let’s try and get that up to 85%+!
The next speaking test
With the next speaking test, I’d like you to choose an article about something you studied at university. For example, Sophie studied geography and zoology at university so she should give a presentation on that subject. Why? Because if you know about a subject well then you’ll be more confident talking about it
So please think about your presentation this weekend and give me something by Friday of next week.
Have fun and enjoy your weekend!
Haydn.
PS- Sadly, it was Satoshi’s last day at Ability today. Thanks for being in my class Satoshi: it was great having a Japanese sugar daddy in class
and hopefully we’ll see you again in the future.
Chapter 8 Vocabulary (Lexis)
Hi everyone, here are the words from the Dilemmas article on pages 66-67 of your student book this week. I’m going to test you on some of these in next week’s test.
