Promotions to Intermediate

To my lovely morning class,

I had a conversation with my manager, Thorsten, and I’ve decided not to promote anyone from D1 to intermediate.  This is because I don’t feel like any of you are ready for it.  In our class there are two types of students:

1) Those great at grammar but not so good with speaking;

2) Those terrific at speaking but less able to use grammar correctly.

I want to see you guys using grammar correctly and speaking well at the same time.  You know what your weaknesses are and I have given you lots of advice about how to fix them.  You can’t move just because of grammar or speaking; you must have both.  Trust me    I’m the best teacher at Ability, and if you follow my advice and help yourself  then you will move faster, like Xiong.

Test Results (Chapter 11)

This week’s grammar test has definately been surprising.   The class average was 77% (see the graph).  Here are the top students in this round:

1) Hasinori

2) Justin

3) See Won

I want to give special congratulations to Hasinori.  In one week his grammar score increased by 15% and he’s now #1 in class!!!  If Hasinori can do it, anyone can do it. 

Sophie (HG) was also surprising; she only came to class one day last week but she got a good score and did really well in the writing question. 

Touk the Thai also did very well.  He got questions right that the best students got wrong.  That’s very good, Mr Touk

Tomorrow’s Speaking Test

Test Results (Chapter 10)

The average class test score this week is 79%.  The top three students this week are:

1) See Won from Korea;

2) Justin from Korea;

3) Sophie from Korea.

So the Koreans have done well!!  However, you need to remember that good grammar test scores are not the most important things in life.  If you didn’t do extremely well in your grammar test it’s not a big life problem so don’t stress too much about it.

Remember that next Wednesday is the speaking test, so please give me your article by tomorrow.  Speaking has the same importance as grammar so please prepare well.  Your afternoon teacher Andrew will be showing you how to give good presentations tomorrow, so please listen to what he tells you

Grammar and Vocabulary

Here is a very very very very very short summary of so and such an/ an.  Also here is the vocabulary for Chapter 10.  This week’s speaking test was interesting:  both the average class grammar mark and the average class speaking mark were 79%.  So your speaking and grammar are at the same level    Let’s try and get that up to 85%+!

The next speaking test

With the next speaking test, I’d like you to choose an article about something you studied at university.  For example, Sophie studied geography and zoology at university so she should give a presentation on that subject.  Why?  Because if you know about a subject well then you’ll be more confident talking about it    So please think about your presentation this weekend and give me something by Friday of next week.

Next Tuesday’s Speaking Test

Hi all,

 Thanks to 95% of you who gave me an article yesterday.  If you haven’t given me an article, you won’t be doing the speaking test.  Sorry but I asked you to give me an article by Friday and if you haven’t done that then you can’t do the test and I can’t help your speaking :(
