Chapter 8 Vocabulary (Lexis)
Hi everyone, here are the words from the Dilemmas article on pages 66-67 of your student book this week. I’m going to test you on some of these in next week’s test.

Afternoon Class – Problems and Dilemmas
To my afternoon class,
Here is the problem story that was planned by Marco’s group. I chose this story because it was very cimilar to the other group and it had more information. Very good job! I didn’t have to change anything
I thought it was very nice
Haydn.
Giving advice and suggestions
Hi everyone, remember what I said in class this morning: when making suggestions or giving advice using words like should, can, could, need to, must, and have to, we normally start a sentence with I think or I reckon. This is more polite because giving advice can make people angry
Also, remember that advice is a noun and advise is a verb. You give advice to or advise someone. Advice is also an uncountable noun, and we normally say give someone a piece of advice, or a word of advice
The past participle and past simple of ‘advise’ is ‘advised‘.
Have a good night!
Welcome!
To the new students in my morning class – WELCOME!
It’s great to have you all with us. Our new students include:
See Won from South Korea, Zhi Yong from China, Satoshi from Japan, and Larissa Martins from Brazil.
I also want to say that you are always welcome to speak to me about any problem you have, even something personal. This might sound crazy, but I really care about you all so if you need to speak to me about anything, I am happy to listen to you :)
Also, if you want to me to check or edit anything that you’ve written (like CVs, emails, diaries, or letters) you can email me at haydnenglish@yahoo.com. Renato emailed me his resume today and everyone can do the same thing.
I’ll post another message on this site soon. VERY NICE!
Expressions of Obligation – Has/have (got) to
Hi all,

- Past simple (e.g. I enjoyed watching movies)
- Present continuous (e.g. I’m now studying English in Australia)
- Present perfect (e.g. I have plans to live in Australia and become really rich) .
I look forward to reading your answers
